I’m so excited to announce that I’ve launched a project on Kickstarter, specifically something I call, KOREAN FOLKLORE, which will be a series of enamel pins. The initial inspiration behind this was that being a 1st generation Korean-American for my family, I’ve definitely lost touch with my heritage. Which I’m sure a lot of 1st gen individuals can echo that sentiment. And for a while now I’ve wanted to try and dive into a project to where I can relearn about the world I was born to.
Enter, KOREAN FOLKLORE.
Why folklore? Well, I feel like any culture, to some degree, has been shaped by the mythology from it’s past. And being a big geek, diving into the folklore and mythology just seemed like that natural place to start. As for why create art around this for enamel pins? Did I mention the being a geek? Love the little things and I know I’m not the only one. Sharing this history I think would be very accessible as fun and cute enamel pins as well.
This is clearly a personal project for me and I can’t wait to bring this to life. For the Kickstarter, I’m starting with one character, the Joseung Saga. Essentially Korea’s Grim Reaper. From there, depending on fundraising, release more characters from tales I’ve researched.
As for the Joseung Saga? Check out the little guy below.
If you’re interested in learning more about all of this, I hope you’ll check out the Kickstarter campaign here.
