Happy AAPI Heritage Month! Even if you’re not of AAPI decent, there’s such a rich history to explore. As this month comes to a close, I wanted to share part of a project with you I undertook for myself.
Being a first generation in the states for my family, like so many other first-generation kids, at some point lost touch with the heritage I was born into. And it did bother me, so I had decided to research my heritage, and given my interests, I started with the folklore in Korean culture.
Going into these tales, I started to imagine what the characters at the heart of them would look like, and with that Korean Folklore was born.
The idea there was to create these SD characters, inspired by these tales, that would become enamel pins.
Now, I’m not trying to pitch you pins. Though, there is a story why I went that route. But more, I wanted to share the stories with you. See, as I sought funding to produce the pins, I went through Kickstarter, and as an incentive, I made a little zine talking about the tales I came across.
And if you’re into it, you can download a PDF of that zine off my site here.
It features 6 tales, though funding only came to 3 pins. But still I loved this experience, and by no means plan on stopping this discovery.
I hope you enjoy the zine!
